Partial reconstruction of the « Prémol » Theater at the « Prémol » MJC (Municipal Cultural Center) in Grenoble.

Following a fire at the theater, the project management team was commissioned to renovate this venue for artistic creation and cultural programming.

The architecture comes from the crossing of two periods: the shell, a farm building pre-dating the creation of the Olympic Village, and the layout, seat rows shaped as a semi-amphitheatre dating back to the Olympic Village.

The two layers’ superposition creates a unique space, with an audience oriented stage space, which we wanted to take advantage of.

We marked the circulation spaces at the top of the seat rows by adding an acoustic wall that draws a limit between the seat rows and the roof. The building’s framework remains visible – the whole area above the wall has been darkened and the framework highlighted by lighting.

The technical grid, with its diamond-shaped form that follows the specific shape of the stage, allows for all kinds of possibilities in terms of hanging. The stage equipment was designed to blend in with the venue’s already striking architecture.
